Pack Upgrade FAQ

Client: How do I transfer maps/settings/servers when I upgrade the pack?

Copy the relevant files from your old instance to the new one.

Server: How do I upgrade my server to a new pack version?

The initial steps are the same for all hosts.

  1. BACKUP.
  2. Download the latest SIMPLE-SERVER-FILES zip and extract it to an empty folder.
  3. Run the startserver script and follow the installation instructions.
  4. Once the installation completes, close the window and delete the newly created world folder.
If you are hosting the pack yourself:
  1. Follow the initial steps above.
  2. Go back to your old server folder, and copy world to the new server folder.
  3. If you have customized any configs or server.properties, you can copy them also.
    • WARNING: Do not copy the entire config folder from your old instance.
We update many configs with each release, some of which will cause crashes or other issues if they are different than what the client has.
We recommend you keep separate documentation of all changes you make to configs, so that you can apply them easily to new versions.
If you are renting a server from a provider:
  1. Follow the initial steps above.
  2. Turn off your old server.
  3. Delete the Forge jar and the following folders from your old server:
    • configs
    • defaultconfigs
    • kubejs
    • libraries
    • mods
  4. From the new server folder, upload the Forge jar and that list of folders to your old server.
  5. If your old server contains server-setup-config.yaml, you should also:
    1. delete the following files from the old server:
      • server-setup-config.yaml
      • serverstarter.lock
      • startserver.bat
      • startserver.sh
    2. Upload those same files from the new server folder.
faq

Thats minecraft server life, please try rebooting again before panicking, then use pastebin or github to provide logs to the team for help diagnosing.

This is common on fresh worlds, or busy worlds when somebody does a significant action that takes the server longer than 60 seconds to process. Change max-tick-time in server.properties to 600000 (10 minutes) as a first step in getting past this. If crashes persist (they'll be a different error or take 10 minutes) then pastebin logs for help.

Edit \config\ftbbackups-common.toml while the server is OFFLINE, save it, then start the server.

Edit \world\serverconfig\ftbessentials.snbt (ftbessentials-server.toml for pre 1.7.x packs) while the server is OFFLINE, save it, then start the server.

This is a local environment issue. Usernames with spaces and/or incorrect java installed or set in the path/launcher youre using, frequently cause this. Get a good launcher that lets you install forge easily (like MultiMC), and make sure thats installed properly. Read the logs, and pastebin them for help if youre still broken.
